This book tends to catch my eye for several moments at a Book Store or even the Library, but I always put it down before reading the first page and ignore it.

I'm a little convinced now and maybe this time I'll check it out.

This is one of my favorite "children's" books of all time; I don't have kids, but both my husband and I loved it. I reviewed it here: http://mindywithrow.com/?p=60.

Girl Detective --

I agree, Miggery's character was tragic. I do want to try some of her other books, though, so thanks for the recommendation.

I enjoyed the book, but not as much as I loved her Tiger Rising. Also, I found the character of Miggery to be so tragic as to be almost too painful. That was teh darkest part of the book, I felt.

Laura --

I imagine the audio book would be very good for this, with all the reader interaction. Do you know who read it? The thing the print version that we had going for it were some really interesting pencil drawings every few chapters.

My children and I listened to this as an audio book and loved it. It was the perfect activity for the entire family to make a 12-hour drive from Virginia to Alabama enjoyable. I'd still like to read the print version, though.
